SURREY HILLS GARDEN

A beautiful Edwardian home that has been refurbished and extended needed the surrounding gardens to be redesigned and brought back to life. The mature perimeter trees have remained in the rear formal garden, but new paths, beds and planting, along with ascending radial steps have been added. The new terrace is large enough to entertain and includes a dining space, outdoor kitchen and louvered-roof pergola area for relaxing. Steps opposite the pool room lead up to a moongate and through to the tennis court. Through the pool room, to the front of the house, the spa garden has quite a different feel. Tree ferns, vibrant planting, a contemporary water feature and a pergola for a hot tub, make it the perfect garden for relaxing and entertaining, year round.

"Absolutely delighted with the work that Chloe has done for us - This was a major project, with specific and challenging requirements. It required knowledge, talent and hard work to achieve, all of which Chloe has in spades. The end result is stunning, and she really brought our vision to life. The whole family is delighted with the gardens and Chloe has been delightful to work with. We couldn't recommend her highly enough."

FAMILY GARDEN / ASHTEAD

A family garden with spaces for dining, relaxing and playing. The family still required a large lawn area for all the sports games, but creating separate spaces, divided by a row of pleached Hornbeam trees meant that this could be kept separate. Clever remodelling of an existing seating area, included making the footprint larger, refurbishing the bench and extending and repainting the existing wall. The BBQ was integrated into a new bespoke kitchen area and a pergola encloses the space and allows for festoon lighting to be hung. Over the other side of the garden, a new raised composite decking area with a bespoke pergola houses a hot tub and bar with a dining and lounging space beside it, next to a calming water feature.

“We couldn’t be happier with our stunning new garden that Chloe designed and managed. During the design phase Chloe was really considerate in balancing an amazing design with a mind on the budget and amount of work to be undertaken.  We were surprised as to how much we could get into the garden!  Her design ensured we would have more useable spaces and dedicated zones for cooking, eating, lounging and even a spa area, yet finished the garden looks bigger than it did before.

Chloe’s plans are delivered to meticulous details.  They leave no room for contractor interpretation or short cuts.  Chloe took on board that we are not very green fingered and incorporated lots of interesting plants in the design which are all low maintenance and of course look fabulous.

Finally, her thoughts and knowledge about garden lighting have been proven to give the garden a high end sophisticated finish.  Now we can enjoy the garden at all times of day, in fact at night it becomes even more beautiful.

We cannot thank Chloe enough, not only for her amazing design, but for managing the project and for being so very committed to the highest quality finish.  We are proud to have the most beautiful garden and we look forward to enjoying it for many years to come”.

POOL TERRACE / KINGSWOOD

A transformed pool terrace. The previous pool house was taken down to open up the space directly next to the house. Part of the pool building wall closest to the boundary was reinstated to create a feature. This has been clad in white stone cladding, and either side of the wall, charcoal composite battens allow vision through to the newly planted Jasmine and Clematis on the boundary fence behind. The new feature wall is perfect for dramatic uplighting. A new automated pool cover rolls along a discreet track and cleverly tucks away whilst the pool is in use.

Architectural planting with a strong emphasis on evergreen structure softens the hard landscaping. Beautiful olive trees create vertical interest without interfering with views and the new tree ferns soften the edges of the new cabana and create contrast with the anthracite frame.

The pool terrace can now be used from day into the evening with plenty of new inviting, soft lighting.

ENTERTAINING TERRACE, KINGSWOOD

The previous timber deck was replaced by a new sunken entertaining space surrounded by a raised bed of planting in a calming pallet of purples, pinks, whites and greens. The original footprint of the decking was increased but still kept in proportion to the size of the house rear elevation and existing formal garden features. The new design includes a covered dining space with louvered roof and heaters, a fantastic outdoor kitchen, lounge area with gas fire bowl next to a calming water feature that cascades down to a water rill. Outdoor speakers hidden in the planting making it the perfect party space!

“Thank you …. we love the garden. It’s just unbelievable” Nick, Kingswood.

GARDEN OASIS / EWELL

After many years with a broken deck and pergola at the rear of the garden, the owners decided it was time for a change. The garden was under used with seating in the wrong place and the space directly outside the back of the house was too small. The garden has five other gardens that surround it, so instead of fighting with the odd shape, I created a garden based on angles that allowed places for lots of lush foliage planting and for features, such as their existing urn. Vertical interest has been added with the new pergola which provides another seating area, decorated with festoon lights.

A new dedicated BBQ area is now located in the place of the old shed and a new shed is hidden at the rear of the garden behind a grey slat screen. Contemporary rusty post lights lead the way in the evening to the BBQ area and warm white directional spot lights are dotted around the garden to gently light up the planting in the evening.

Much of the established planting was retained, pruned into a better shape or relocated. The owners prefer interesting foliage plants and architectural style planting so I have included plants such as a Tetrapanex and Fatsia polycarpa, along with a Dicksonia anartica and ornamental grasses. The garden now feels calm and ordered with designated places to sit and relax in the sun, or unwind into the summer evenings.
